Energy@BuilConn
Track Leader: John J. Mc Gowan
Thursday March 24, 2005
|
Without a doubt, saving energy is the most significant, lowest hanging fruit that building systems can reap today; the prevalence of connectivity technology makes enterprise and wide area energy management solutions a reality. There are numerous initiatives to maximize these efforts, from distributed generation, real-time pricing as well as leveraging the enormous power of the grid to reduce and make more efficient the energy required for buildings. This track will cover these issues and how building systems can be used to achieve these goals.

The Future of Energy Distribution
10:00-10:30
|
Energy is one of the major forces driving the use of technology in buildings. The distribution and use of energy in buildings is an area that stands to benefit from the ability of smart devices to monitor and control energy wastage. The energy and utility distribution industry is at the forefront of this movement driven by a number of initiatives instigated by the DOE (Department of Energy).
This presentation will set the scene of a critical track in the evolution of the intelligent building, driving towards the immediate benefit that could be gained by saving and efficiently distributing energy. |

Expert Panel on Energy-Related Technology
10:30-11:30
|
Many energy-related technologies are available to monitor, control, and manage the use and distribution of energy at the grid level as well as within buildings. Technology has been in use for many years as specific solutions to manage energy. As convergence occurs in buildings, these technologies will become critical components of the bigger picture.
Listen to experts from key organizations and initiatives related to energy distribution and technology discuss the status and application of these solutions and how they will relate to the convergence now being seen in buildings. |

|
Convergence of Utility Distribution with IT
2:00-3:45
|
As Information Technology permeates many industries, the energy and utility distribution and management disciplines have rapidly adopted these technologies from its earliest days. From the early days of HVAC, energy management was an important driver. The convergence of energy distribution with IT is a subject being developed by a number of initiatives.
Hear experts from technology adopters of energy distribution and management; listen to a discussion on their applications and successes in reducing and controlling their use of energy through the use of the most advanced of IT-based technologies. |

Energy Distribution and Intelligent Buildings
4:00-5:30
|
The role of energy distribution in the intelligent building is starting to evolve as the real value of interconnectivity between devices and systems in buildings become a mature technology.
Participate in this roundtable discussion on how energy can become an integral part of the integrated, intelligent building of tomorrow. |
